Franz Marc Pink Elephants and Blue Horses Lesson
The vivid use of color to express emotions and ideas is a trademark of Franz Marc. He is most famous for his paintings of unusually colorful animals set in almost abstract style scenery.
Aztec Masks Art Lesson
This Aztec Masks art lesson is another project I did with one of my 5th and 6th grade classes this year. I tied it in with their study of the Aztec and Mayan cultures and the early explorers.
Montana Mona Lisa
This Mona Lisa painting project is one I have done several times and it really helps my Montana students relate to Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa painting. It is also a good mixed media project.
Modigliani Multimedia Face Art Lesson
This is a fun lesson to do with all ages, and I have added the tissue paper background for an extra twist, since the face painting can be a fairly quick project to do.
Henri Matisse Goldfish Art Lesson
Henri Matisse is one of my favorite artists and so I am always looking for new projects to share him with my students.
Matisse Flower Vase Art Lesson
I got this Henri Matisse art lesson idea from Matisse’s “Woman with a Purple Robe” painting, and have altered it to fit different age groups. I love Matisse because of all the bright colors and patterns he used in his work. This is a fun way to introduce mixed media and the different steps keep the interest level high.
Laurel Burch Cats Art Lesson
I did this Laurel Burch cats art project for one of my summer classes and have also done it for kindergarten to 6th grade at the school I work at. It is a fun one to do as kids like to do animal projects and this one is doable for any age.

Kevin Red Star Painted Ponies
This is another Kevin Red Star project that I just finished with several classes. I love how these turned out with all the bright colors!
Edna Lemm
I am an art specialist in Montana who has taught k-12 art classes, teacher workshops and trained adults as art docents for three school wide programs. I spend a lot of time playing around with lesson ideas and creating art. (Just can’t seem to get enough of it!) In this blog you will find lessons that have brought out the fun and creativity in me and made a big splash with my students. My passion is art history, so most of my school lessons are art history based, but I teach summer classes as well and those lessons cover a wide range of subjects and mediums. I love to share my lessons and get ideas from other great teachers and artists. Feel free to use any of these projects, and if you do post about a project please reference my blog. I’d also love to hear any feedback or ideas from you. Keep doing Art! - Edna
I'm writing a book!
I am excited to announce my latest project! My daughter and I are working on a big, beautiful, creatively designed book on artist related lessons (similar to the ones on this website but with more details, step by step instructions and photos). The book will be for anyone who wants concise, detailed, well laid out lessons that are ready to teach, in a format that is fun to look at as well.
